Machinjo

2019年3月26日

In sections of Nishi-ku and Machibata-ku in the district of Itoman which faces the Itoman Fishing Port, are nine Jogwa alleys along Route 331 toward the Fishing Port. The sixth Jogwa is called Machinjo, and the Ka water well is called the Machinjonuka Well.

The name Machinjo originates from the marketplace that was newly established in 1888, after this particular Jogwa was reclaimed.

The marketplace at the time was separated in sections where sharks, meats, fish, and vegetables were sold and it was always busy with many people. The Machinjonuka Well was a very important water source for the people working at the market and for the surrounding residents.
