Umi-no-furusato Park
“Museum of wisdom and skills of Uminchu fishermen”
The objective of this museum is to preserve, pass on and collect records regarding the history and culture of the Uminchu fishermen of Itoman. On display are various handmade fishing tools and everyday items used by the Itoman Uminchu, and some of the particularly interesting exhibits are the underwater goggles made by utilizing the unique characteristics of velvetleaf soldierbush, and watertight tobacco cases. Visitors will see and feel the wisdom and ingenuity of the pioneer fishermen, and also experience rowing the Sabani boat and participate in various workshops.
